Coastal and Ocean Resources

History

Coastal and Ocean Resources (CORI) Inc. started as a company solely owned by Dr. John Harper in 1987. The principal areas of activity of the company were oil spill studies, coastal habitat mapping and coastal sedimentary processes. The company is based in Victoria, BC, Canada but has worked extensively along the Pacific Northwest, the Arctic, and other locations around the world.

Dr. Brian Bornhold joined the company in 1998, allowing CORI to expand into offshore geological hazards, marine sediment transport processes, and oceanographic studies. More technical staff joined CORI from 1998-2012, spurred by the expansion of the ShoreZone coastal mapping program.

In December 2012, the company was acquired by Moran Environmental Recovery (MER). CORI is now managed by Sarah Cook, M.Sc., R.P.Bio,  ShoreZone Program Manager and Senior Biologist. CORI still focuses on ShoreZone mapping and is expanding to include analytical services for resource management. CORI has developed strong partnerships to provide bundled services including tsunami modeling and hazard evaluation, oil trajectory modeling, shoreline cleanup and assessments, observational oceanography, and coastal ecology.
